By eight o’clock, Frank and the others had been back in the station for over an hour, and yet none of the details had led anywhere. The more information they gained, the less the scribbles on their whiteboard made sense. Frank combed through the files, desperately checking to see if they’d missed anything while Aaron reviewed the recent information from the geek twins in between phone calls with people at the BAU down in Quantico. He had faxed over his preliminary profile, and the other psychologists at the BAU were tweaking it and running the basic MO and signature through their database, Profiler, to see if anything jumped from other cases both nationally and internationally.

Jasika sat at her computer, filling out the paperwork necessary for a warrant to get information from Connor Gordon’s web-hosting service. She had called and asked politely for information on who had accessed holidayhorrors.com but was quickly sent to legal, who had informed her that to receive any information, she would need a warrant, as the company refused to release anything private. Frank was proud of the effort she was making, regardless of the dead ends.

“Hey, Frank, I’ve finished the warrant application. Wanna take a look at it before we email it to the chief for final approval?”

“Sure, and while I’m looking at that, could you send a list of the different names on the website to dispatch? Let’s get officers all over the city checking in on them. I want to know who is missing around town. If he keeps up with this MO, at least two people should pop as already missing.”

“Sure thing,” Jasika replied. “Hey, once I’m done with email, do you mind if I take off? My mom’s been with Ginny, and I feel bad having her watch Ginny all day at her age. I don’t want to leave, but…”

“Jas, go. I completely understand. You need time with your daughter. Bluntly, I need to get out of here as well. I feel like I keep seeing the same things over and over again.”

“Well, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results,” Aaron quipped.

“Maybe we all should just call it a night. I mean, the board isn’t changing. And maybe some distance will clear our heads,” Frank suggested.

Jasika finished emailing dispatch with the list of names and addresses, grabbed her bag and coat, and headed out. Frank kept staring at the board, hoping something would finally jump out at him, but nothing gelled in his head. Aaron came up beside him and started staring at the board with him.

“Maybe we should go get something to eat,” Aaron suggested. “Food always helps me focus.”

“Sure, why not.”

“Great.”

“I know a cheap Chinese restaurant near the park. At this hour, we should be able to get a table with no wait.” Frank grabbed his duffle bag and Aaron grabbed his briefcase before they set out into the winter air for the short walk to the restaurant.
